About Nokomis

On January 19, 1971, two Standard Oil Company of California tankers, the Arizona Standard and the Oregon Standard, collided in the San Francisco Bay causing a massive oil spill.

Following that spill, a group of scientists came together and formed the product Nokomis 3— a non-flammable, water-based, eco-friendly formulation that is designed to effectively disperse oil that has been spilled into the ocean, lakes, bays, or rivers. This synergetic formulation has been used by the United States Navy, State of California Fish and Game and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Since its first formulation in 1971, NOKOMIS has been used professionally as a cleaner by manufacturers, service companies, government agencies, and many other industries where workers safety and the environment is considered.

What makes NOKOMIS special is that it was formulated to dissolve oil in both salt and fresh water, without the use of dangerous chemicals. Therefore it can be used in sensitive environmental areas, such as the ocean and other natural waterways.

NOKOMIS is biodegradable, non-toxic, and non-flammable.

Most users of NOKOMIS find that it does a much better job of cleaning than strong caustic formulations, and without generating hazardous waste.

And because NOKOMIS is effective in hard or high mineral water, it can reduce the service required on heated cleaning equipment such as steam cleaners and high pressure hot water washers by suspending the minerals in the water, keeping it from forming on the internal parts of the heater coil and pump.

NOKOMIS has received approvals and licenses by:

  • State of California Water Resources Control Board
  • United States Department of Agriculture
  • State of California Department of Health Services
  • Environmental Protection Agency

NOKOMIS does not contain:

  • Phosphates
  • Nitrogen
  • Nitrosmanies
  • 1,4-Dioxane
  • Alkybenzene Sulfonate (ABS)
  • Linear Alkybenzene Sulfonate (LAS)
